How To Deal with Heat Rash In Toddlers | Tips to Cure From Heat Rash In Toddlers

During the summer months, some people feel they get a heat rash just by stepping outside and walking to their car. It's important to treat heat rash so that you don't feel itchy and uncomfortable all summer. Prickly heat can strike babies, teens, baby boomers and the elderly. For some people it happens due to exercising, being in the sun, moving furniture or dressing too warmly.

As children mature, the eczema rash often is located on elbows, knees and ankles. It can be a pinkish patch, red bumps and skin that peels. It is always good to have the diagnosis confirmed by a dermatologist since hives, impetigo, scabies and heat rashes are also common rashes.

Among babies or infants, this problem occur due to their developing sweat glands which fail to transport sebum or natural oil to the skin's surface. Rash in babies generally occurs on the forehead, neck and shoulders. In adults, it is often a result of the sweat pores getting blocked by the sebum and dead skin cells.

Prickly Heat rash is often treated with dry talcum powders like gold bond or even a zinc oxide powder (available in baby products). Since I am inclined to NOT use chemicals on my child I looked for more of the home remedies that surely many mother's have tried and attested to over the years with their own children.

Chlorine is used to disinfect swimming pools to prevent algae and bacteria from building up in the water. If the water is left untreated, the water becomes detrimental to the health of the users of the pool. I remember once when my daughters went into a pool that was not sterilized properly, they ended up with ear infections from the water.

During the summertime, a child this age may only want to wear a sleep shirt or a nightgown. Little ones this age particularly become interested in princesses, cowboys, cars and trucks, and cute animals. Their pajamas often feature pictures of these items on them.

Though most directly linked to over activity during hot weather and anything else which causes excessive sweating, there are some other causes of prickly heat rash, including obesity and genetics. The tendency to develop heat rash can also be exacerbated by poor hygiene, the use of certain deodorants or anti-perspirants which can cause allergic reaction, and in infants, the failure to change diapers frequently.

The redness and itching from a rash due to an antibiotic is often treated with cortisone prescription creams, oral steroids or medications such as allegra to give your body relief. Children enjoy an oatmeal bath for it's soothing effect on the skin. Make it fun for them and don't dwell on the itching.Baking soda or fine ground oatmeal powder has proven effectively to alleviate itching due to heat rash. You may add a few spoonfuls to your bath and soak yourself in the mixture for about 30 minutes. This method will leave you feeling refreshed and itch free.

On the whole, there are other medications that can be prescribed to treat the infection. There are some serious reactions such as Steven Johnson Syndrome from a drug medication so once the causality is established, it's important to discontinue the medication. Steven Johnson Syndrome is rare but a serious situation which can be fatal. Toxic epidermal necrolysis is another problem that can develop due to a drug reaction.
