Get Rid Of Your Toddlers Cough With Natural Remedies | Treating a Toddler's Simple Cough

One of the most common reasons for a doctor visit by toddler age children is a cough. The good news is that coughs in children are most often symptoms of upper respiratory viruses such as the common cold and are usually self limiting; only lasting 7-10 days. While there are certainly more serious causes to pediatric cough we will take a look at treatment for a simple cough related to allergies and colds.

Putting your baby in a warm (not hot) bath can have the same effect. Make the bath even more effective by adding a few drops of eucalyptus, sage or thyme oil into the bath water. The vapors from these essential oils will help open baby's airways, allowing her to breath easier. The vapors from these oils will also sooth a sore throat.

Clear fluids are crucial, especially when the child runs a fever. Chicken soup daily will help with nasal congestion, will break up mucus in the respiratory system, and will decrease mucus production.

Some parents, especially those with allergies themselves, will make it a point to have their children undergo the basic allergy tests that their pediatrician can administer. Just because the parent has an allergy or asthma, it does not mean that the child will but it is always best to be on the side of caution in these circumstances.

Take a cup of honey in a stainless steel utensil and heat it on a very low flame. As the honey starts getting thinner, add 1 tablespoon of cinnamon and stir it continuously till they mix well. Now add 1/2 cup of lemon juice to this mix and stir again. Pour this mixture into a small jar. Have 1 tablespoon of this twice or thrice a day.

Boil some water with 2 garlic cloves, 1 table spoon of oregano. Pour into a cup add 1 tablespoon of honey and drink.

Parents should avoid smoking especially the mother during the pregnancy. You can consult a good pediatrician for your baby's allergic problem. Most of the hospitals have allergy test for identifying the allergic objects. Your pediatrician can give you advice on that matter.

Emotional stress is also considered to be a trigger factor. Not only does it cause an asthma attack but it could also worsen asthma symptoms. Anxiety or panic attacks should be dealt with reasonable calm to help relax your child. The moment your toddler calms down you can administer treatment such as bronchodilator medication.

If your baby has nasal congestion, you can use a rubber suction bulb to draw out the mucus from his nostrils. If the mucus is too thick, you can apply saline nose drops to soften the mucus before extracting with the bulb. A humidifier can also be used in the baby's room to help liquefy the nasal secretions.

A cool air vaporizer running in your child's bedroom overnight can alleviate the harsh cough. Other alternatives are bundling up your child and taking him or her outside in the cool air, or taking your child for a drive in the car with the window open. The cool air soothes the swollen airways affected by croup.
